I find it hard to believe that a festival of this kind can actually exist in the world.
Films of Ang Lee, David Cronenberg, Pedro Almodóvar, and Errol Morris have debuted in Telluride. Ken Burns’ THE CIVIL WAR first found acclaim there. Danny Boyle, Andrea Arnold, Michel Hazanavicius, Marjane Satrapi, and Alexander Payne showcased their works high in the peaks of Colorado before they went on to win awards and broader recognition.
We revel in discovering new talent. We don’t discriminate: shorts, features, documentaries, animation, film, and video — all are welcome submissions. The only prerequisite is that feature films have not been shown around the North American block before – we’re not so strict about shorts.
We show a handful of films and are very selective. The real prize in Telluride is to be accepted from hundreds of entries as one of approximately 25 shorts and 24 features that will be showcased at the Festival. A few short films will be paired with a feature. Others will be collected into one of the the three short film programs. Be a part of a 42 year history of discovery: send us a new, fresh and brilliant film. If it's accepted, the hardest part is over. Then, on with the SHOW!
I just love walking down the main street. It’s like a village made of famous filmmakers!
No matter what kind of year I have had, if I come to Telluride, it’s been a good year.
